Hindu Caste System - What is it?

We all work. At work we have a boss. Your boss is higher than you and you are lower than your boss. Does this mean that your company is bad for making you lower than your boss? No. You are lower than your boss, because your boss deserves to be higher than you. He is better qualified and experienced and thus he deserves to be higher than you. You are less qualified and experienced and thus you deserve to be lower than your boss.

The Hindu caste system is exactly like this example.

There are lower and higher living beings. Animals are lower than Humans, within the animal kingdom there are higher and lower beings of animals. A horse is higher than a donkey. A snake is lower than a dog, a bird is higher than a fish etc.. Every living being is a soul covered by a particular material body depending on what the soul deserves. This is based on the karmic actions taken by the soul in previous lives. Thus a soul may occupy the body of a human today but in his next incarnation he may take up the body of a donkey. A person may be born in a rich family in this life but in his next life, he may be born in poor family. Some people are born to poor families due to bad karma and some are born to rich families due to their good karma. The rich person is higher than a poor person etc..

Every person takes birth in a particular country, in a particular city, on a particular street, to a particular mother. Exactly according to what the person deserves. God does not make one suffer for no reason nor does he make one happy for no reason. God is very fair and gives you exactly what you deserve.

We can’t all be high nor can we all be low due to the differing good and bad karmic actions taken in life by each person. Living beings are high or low relative to each other. This is a fact of life and natures way. Since Hinduism is the only religion, which states this fact, it is unfairly called the Hindu caste system.

A real Hindu (a Krishna conscious person) does not make any distinction between higher and lower beings. Although living beings are higher and lower relative to each other, he sees all beings as one and equal. Hinduism is the only religion, which actually preaches that all living beings are in fact one and thus should be treated equally. Living beings are souls covered in different bodies and in different circumstances according to karma or the law of nature. Most Hindus treat all living beings as one and equal. Only in India can you see monkeys, peacocks, cows, goats, chickens, people, mice, snakes, horses, and elephants. Walking, sitting, and living next to each other.

"The humble sages, by virtue of true knowledge, see with equal vision a learned and gentle Brahman, a cow, an elephant, a dog and a dog-eater." (Lord Krishna Bg. 5.18)

Is everyone of the same intelligence? Is everyone very clean? Is everyone very honest? Is everyone very religious? Is everyone very peaceful and non-violent?

The simple answer to the above questions is NO. Thus this proves that everyone is not equal and that natures caste system (Hindu caste system) is a fact of life. The Hindu caste system simply states that there are 4 categories to which a person belongs to, according to his/her qualification.

* Peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, wisdom, knowledge, and religiousness are the qualities of Brahmans. They should be the leaders of society so that others can follow in their footsteps.
* Heroism, power, determination, resourcefulness, courage in battle, generosity, and leadership are the qualities of Ksatriyas. They should be the administrators of society.
* Those who have diminished qualities from those above, are the Vaisyas. They are the producers of society.
* Those who have further diminished qualities from above, are the Sudras. They are the workers.

At this present time, almost everyone has qualifications of a Sudra, the lowest among mankind.
